Title: The TREC Expedition

The TREC (TRaversing European Coastlines) Expedition is
TRaversing European Coastlines (TREC) is an international, highly collaborative scientific expedition that addresses important environmental and societal challenges such as climate change, pollution, spread of antibiotic resistance, and the loss of biodiversity. The expedition explores the interactions between the two major ecosystems on our planet, ocean and land. TREC will bring molecular sciences to environmental research in a Pan European project to obtain a mechanistic understanding of organismal responses to natural and anthropogenic environmental factors. The scientific endeavour will be accompanied with mobile service, training and outreach activities.

This seminar will also include the participation of CIIMAR researcher Amaranta Kahn, who will be developing parts of her project at the EMBL´s Advanced Mobile Lab facilities.

Name: Valerie Maier

Valerie is the TREC Field Operations Coordinator and has been with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), since October 2022. Her background is in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a PhD in Cell Biology. For the last years she worked at the University of Iceland in various fields doing research, teaching and setting up a zebrafish core facility. In 2022 she organised the TREC pilot expedition in Iceland and then moved to Germany in the autumn of 2022 to take part in the organisation of the whole TREC expedition.

Amaranta Kahn

Amaranta Kahn is a post-doctorate in the CNP lab of CIIMAR, adores microbes, and is going to share her Microbial Diversity summer school experiment at the Marine Biological Laboratory of Woods Hole

The seminar will take place at CIIMAR headquarters (Boca da Baleia Auditorium).
