CIIMAR has formalized a memorandum of understanding with IBERBLUE WIND to focus on the potential exploration of wind farms along the Portuguese western coast.
To enhance Portugal’s wind capacity, CIIMAR has formalized a memorandum of understanding with IBERBLUE WIND, a joint venture specialized in the design, development and management of floating offshore wind farms that will operate in the Iberian market. The memorandum establishes the groundwork for future collaborations, focusing on the potential exploration of wind farms along the Portuguese western coast, aligning with the national ambition to install 10 GW of capacity by 2030.
The agreement highlights CIIMAR’s prospective contribution in promoting a strategic, ecosystem-based approach to offshore wind energy exploration in Portugal. This involves the development of characterization studies for affected areas and the implementation of marine environment monitoring programs.
Additionally, CIIMAR will play an active role in seeking solutions that reconcile the operation of wind farms with other sustainable practices, such as aquaculture.
