Title: An Arctic perspective: a cross-disciplinary look into how climate change is affecting the North Atlantic Ocean and its surrounding communities

In this presentation, we will present a look into how climate change is expected to affect Northern Norway’s marine ecosystems, aquaculture industry, and coastal communities. This will be a two-part presentation, where we present a broad overview of the discussion and concerns related to climate change impacts in Northern Norway as well as a deep-dive into a PhD project looking into how to tackle this complex, yet important, topic from a modelling perspective.

Name: Dina Abdel-Fattah & Stian Kleiven

Dina Abdel-Fattah is an associate professor in the Department of Technology and Safety at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and is the research group leader of UiT’s Climate Change Adaptation research group. She holds a PhD in Natural Resources and Sustainability from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a MSc. in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam, and a BA in International Relations from the College of William and Mary. Abdel-Fattah teaches courses on climate change and emergency preparedness at UiT and has an established research background in climate change-induced hazards and their societal impacts, particularly in an Arctic context.

Stian Kleiven is a marine biologist interested in Arctic marine ecology. Now he is working on his PhD project at UiT, related to the impacts of climate change on the North Norwegian aquaculture industry.
