CIIMAR, FURG, and FIO have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build an ocean observation station in Rio Grande.
CIIMAR, the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO) of China have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at constructing an oceanic observation station in Rio Grande, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
The new facility will focus on the in-depth study of the marine environment, monitoring various parameters that include climate change, physical oceanography, and the interaction between the ocean and the atmosphere. The station, funded by FIO of China, will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including advanced oceanographic sensors and meteorological instruments, thus facilitating the collection and analysis of real-time data.
It is anticipated that the station will be completed and fully operational by 2025, providing an essential platform for research development and the training of specialists in the marine and environmental field.
The collaboration between CIIMAR, FURG, and FIO highlights these institutions’ commitment to global Ocean science and the sustainability of the marine environment, opening new opportunities for Ocean knowledge advancement and the conservation of its ecosystems.
