On July 17, CIIMAR welcomed a visit from the Regional Secretariat for the Sea and Fisheries of the Azores, led by the Regional Secretary Dr. Mário Rui Pinho, as part of the Hub Azul Leixões (HAL). The visit’s main objective was to learn about the CIIMAR collections that will be included in the Northern Blue Biobank – LEGE-CC, CM2C, and DEEP-Biobank.
The Northern Blue Biobank, coordinated by CIIMAR and part of HAL – Pole 1, will be established at the Porto Cruise Terminal, representing a true hotspot for the Blue Economy, integrated into a national network of marine resource biobanks.
HAL – Pole 1, an initiative of the consortium led by INESC TEC and composed of CIIMAR, APDL, the Municipality of Matosinhos, INEGI, and Fórum Oceano, is one of eight poles in the Hub Azul Portugal network, a project funded by the PRR, aimed at developing and testing ocean technologies to promote a sustainable blue economy.
