BYT&FAIRWAY – Workshop on Open Science & Data Management

The BYT program, in collaboration with the FAIRWAY project funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), announces the first Workshop on Open Science & Data Management!

Location: Boca da Baleia, CIIMAR

This workshop is aimed at CIIMAR students and early-career researchers interested in learning the basics of Open Science and Research Data Management. It will introduce basic concepts such as the FAIR Data Principles, Data Management Plan, and Research Data Lifecycle through theoretical and practical examples.  The goal is to help you adopt open and efficient research practices from the start of your career.
 
Workshop Speakers:
 
Maria Paola Tomasino coordinates the Open Science and Data Management Office at CIIMAR, providing researchers with support and training in Research Data Management (RDM). She has a background in marine microbial diversity and has participated in oceanographic expeditions since 2013. Currently, she serves as the Data Steward for CIIMAR’s MONITORING PLATFORM, ensuring the interoperability of marine data and metadata.
 
João Aguiar Castro, a data steward at INESC TEC and invited assistant professor at FEUP, has worked in Research Data Management (RDM) since 2013, focusing on researcher engagement and metadata models. He created FEUP’s Transversal Skills in Research Data Management course in 2021 and holds a master’s in Information Science and a PhD in Digital Media from the University of Porto.
 
Seats are limited, and while the workshop is free of charge, registration is mandatory by December 1st.
