Inauguration of the exhibition “Biobanco Azul Português: O Guardião de Tesouros Marinhos”.

The exhibition is on display at the CMIA Vila do Conde until September 26, 2025.

On March 24, the exhibition “Biobanco Azul Português: O Guardião de Tesouros Marinhos” was inaugurated at the CMIA Vila do Conde.

This exhibition, curated by CIIMAR members Fábio Faria and Íris Sampaio, showcases information from the various institutional collections integrated into the Portuguese Blue Biobank, led by CIIMAR.

The inaugural event, held as part of the celebrations for the 18th anniversary of CMIA Vila do Conde, featured speeches from Sara Lobão (Vice-President of the Vila do Conde City Council), Francisco Pimenta (Director of the Agrupamento de Escolas D. Afonso Sanches), Cristina Calheiros (Coordinator of CMIA Vila do Conde), and Vítor Vasconcelos (President of CIIMAR’s Board of Directors).

The inauguration also saw the special participation of a class from the 5th grade of Júlio Saúl-Dias School and a class from the 3rd year of the Renewable Energy Degree at University of Maia. In addition to the guided tour, the students took part in the activity “Caça aos tesouros marinhos do Biobanco Azul Português”, a board game that turns visitors into real-life marine treasure-exploring scientists.

This exhibition invites visitors to “dive” into the different biological diversity collections and explore their precious treasures. Bacteria, sponges, corals, algae, and fish are some of the organisms that scientists preserve and study for a variety of purposes.

The exhibition will be on display at CMIA Vila do Conde until September 26, 2025.
