The CIIMAR researcher and professor at the Biology Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), Isabel Sousa Pinto, has been elected as a new member of the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc).
The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is an international association that recognizes and elects as members the best scientists who can contribute to strengthening European science by bringing their highly specialized knowledge to advise other European bodies. The announcement of this year’s nominated members was released this month, and Isabel Sousa Pinto was the only Portuguese scientist in the group of newly elected members.
On its website, EurASc expresses its enthusiasm for welcoming CIIMAR-UP researcher and FCUP professor Isabel Sousa Pinto to the Earth and Environmental Sciences division, recognizing that she brings to the association “unparalleled experience in marine biology and environmental conservation” and an “invaluable addition to our Academy”.
For the CIIMAR researcher, this appointment signifies “recognition of her work by the international scientific community, which covers all areas of science and technology, and it is an honor to be able to be a member of the European Academy of Sciences and to work together with renowned international colleagues to promote advances in the field of Earth and Environmental Sciences.”
The European Academy of Sciences
The European Academy of Sciences is a fully independent international association of leading academics that seeks to use the experience of its members to advise other European bodies on improving European research, technological application and social development.
The election of EurASc members begins with a proposal made by the Scientific Committee of the Academy’s Divisions, subject to the approval of its General Board.
On EurASc’s social networks, the association expresses its expectations of the new members, highlighting the impact of its most recent Portuguese acquisition: “we look forward to the continued impact of Isabel Sousa Pinto’s innovative work on marine biodiversity, ecosystem services and nature-based solutions”.
The new members recently announced on the website of the European Academy of Sciences were sworn in at a ceremony held on October 29/30 at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
