CIIMAR researchers on the “World’s Top 2% Scientists List”

The most recent edition of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists list”, for 2022, features 162 researchers from the U. Porto, 17 of whom are members of CIIMAR (10.5%).

This recognition highlights the most cited scientists in the world, based on SCOPUS, the world’s largest database of abstracts and citations of scientific publications. The study was coordinated by John Ioannidis, from Stanford University (USA), in collaboration with the publisher Elsevier.

This edition includes 278 more nominees from Portuguese institutions than the previous edition, of which 162 are associated with University of Porto institutions. These 162 include, among others, the winners of four of the last six editions of the Award for Excellence in Scientific Research at the University of Porto, including Professor Vitor Vasconcelos, President of the Board of CIIMAR.

CIIMAR was also represented by researchers Aires Oliva TelesAna Sara GomesAnake KijjoaBenjamin CostasCarlos AzevedoCarlos Vale, Maria Emília SousaEugénia PintoFrancisco Taveira PintoHelena PeresJorge EirasLúcia GuilherminoFilipe CastroLuísa ValenteMadalena Pinto, and Paula Enes.

The researchers included in the list represent a wide range of scientific areas (22), with marine sciences being one of the most represented.

In addition to last year’s most cited researchers, the World’s Top 2% Scientists list also includes 113 U.Porto researchers among the scientists with the greatest impact (corresponding to the highest number of citations) throughout their careers.
