“Café com Ciência” Seminar Series

“Café com Ciência” with Cátia Monteiro | Online

bioMARatona Norte – beaches full of life

During this presentation, the BioMARathon North will be introduced, a project launched this summer with the goal of engaging the general public in scientific research and biodiversity data collection. This initiative enables individuals to contribute to science, breaking down barriers between professionals and the public while helping to bridge knowledge gaps. One of the main challenges lies in designing tools that are easily accessible, intuitive, and effectively integrate users as an essential component of the process. The presentation will showcase examples of tools developed within the ANERIS project (EU-funded) and their implementation in citizen science activities in northern Portugal.

Cátia Monteiro

Cátia is a marine biologist who has been exploring the rocky shores of Matosinhos since childhood. After spending time abroad (earning a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Bremen, Germany, and Sorbonne, France), she returned to Portugal in 2020, dedicating herself to describing and protecting marine biodiversity. She is a researcher in the CoastalWarming group at CIBIO/BIOPOLIS (Centre for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources) in Vila do Conde.
