BLUEBIO ALLIANCE: Supporting a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Blue Biotechnology

The BLUEBIO ALLIANCE is Portugal’s dedicated collaborative network supporting innovation, growth, internationalisation, and sustainability within the blue biotechnology subsector. Acting as a bridge between academia, industry, government, and entrepreneurs, the association fosters a vibrant ecosystem where novel marine-based solutions can thrive.
Through our dedicated support and initiatives, BLUEBIO ALLIANCE focuses on supporting breakthrough biotechnology solutions derived from marine resources, creating new value chains and cross-sectorial collaborations.

This presentation will outline the association’s strategy leveraging the blue bioeconomy.

Elisabete da Costa

Advisor and Project Manager at BlueBio Alliance, Elisabete da Costa holds a degree in Industrial Chemistry, a Master’s in Instrumental Analysis, and a Ph.D. in Sustainable Chemistry on “High added-value products from macroalgae: lipids as bioactive compounds”, a partnership between the University of Aveiro and the company ALGAPlus.
After a career in industry and early-stage research, she has developed a strong passion for knowledge and research transfer to industry.
At present, she is an enthusiastic and active promoter of synergies within the blue bioeconomy sector, fostering partnerships that can contribute to the improvement of methods, processes, and products based on blue biotechnology. Whether managing a large and diverse network of value chain partners, mentoring startups, or advising on projects, her current interests include the smart and conscious use of marine bioresources, and biotechnology applied as solutions for circular and decarbonising industries while ensuring sustainable economy development.
