CIIMAR’s Nautilus Seminar with Filipa Soares | Boca da Baleia Auditorium – CIIMAR
Cultivated seafood, including octopus, presents a sustainable solution to the challenges of overfishing, pollution, and climate change. As global seafood demand rises and wild fish stocks deplete, alternative solutions are becoming increasingly essential. Cultivated seafood utilizes cellular agriculture to grow marine organisms’ tissues in bioreactors. Cell4Food, the first cultivated meat company in Portugal, focuses specifically on fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. We believe that cultivated seafood has significant potential to reduce environmental impact, enhance food security, and offer nutritious alternatives to traditional seafood, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient food system.
With over 15 years of experience in commercial R&D, scale-up, and product development across the pharmaceutical, biotech, and agtech sectors, Filipa has expertise in biologics, regenerative medicine, and cellular agriculture. She previously served as VP of Research & Technology at Ivy Farm Technologies, the UK’s leader in cultivated meat. Filipa has a proven track record of developing and delivering innovative technologies and processes. She has authored numerous papers and managed several international grants. Filipa holds a PhD in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine from the University of Cambridge.
