‘Self-Delivery’ Using Anti-Inflammatory Hydrogels: Biological Evaluation of NSAID-Dehydrodipeptide Conjugates
In this study, we examined the pharmacological activities of naproxen–dehydrodipeptide hybrids, focusing on their hydrogelation ability and potential as nanocarriers. The compounds were tested for anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer activities, and cytotoxicity to non-cancer cells through various assays. One compound inhibited cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) more effectively than naproxen without affecting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), making it a promising lead for selective COX-2 inhibitors.
Peter Jervis
Peter Jervis earned his master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Leicester in 2004 and completed a PhD in organic chemistry at the University of Birmingham in 2008. He conducted postdoctoral research in glycolipids with Prof. Gurdyal S. Besra before working in drug discovery for GlaxoSmithKline, Concept Life Sciences, and AstraZeneca. He returned to academia in 2018, collaborating with U.Porto and U.Minho. Now a synthetic chemist at CIIMAR, he has published more than 40 research papers.
