CIIMAR develops a predictive model for sea-level rise

CIIMAR researchers Irene Martins and Yuri Costa develop a predictive model that allows anticipating the position of saline intrusion in estuaries for the likely scenario of sea-level rise in the coming years.

CIIMAR paper “Trends of sea-level rise effects on estuaries and estimates of future saline intrusion” now published in the journal Ocean & Coastal Management by the researchers Irene Martins and Yuri Costa develops a predictive model that allows anticipating the position of saline intrusion in estuaries for the likely scenario of sea-level rise in the coming years.

This work was based on a systematic analysis and synthesis of hydrodynamic model results from previous studies developed around the world and points to the importance of predictive tools in mitigation measures associated with the significant increase in saltwater intrusion in estuaries.
