Social & Environmental Sustainability Report 2024

CIIMAR published its Social & Environmental Sustainability Report 2024. The document compiles the main measures implemented throughout the year to promote environmental and social sustainability, in alignment with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Ocean Decade.

Among the actions highlighted is the reduction of energy consumption at the Bioterium of Aquatic Organisms (BOGA), with 58,000 kWh less than the previous year, as well as a decrease in water use associated with experimental trials. The commitment to more sustainable laboratory practices also included plastic recycling in collaboration with Precious Plastic Portugal.

In the social domain, more than 200 professional training actions and 35 advanced training courses were carried out and access to psychological consultations was extended. The institution also promoted sports initiatives, encouraged sustainable mobility, organized six coastal clean-ups and supported circular economy activities such as the CIIMAR Circular Markets.
