After a week in which the north of the country was ravaged by fires, CIIMAR’s Open Day brought a breath of fresh air to the Porto Cruise Terminal.
On September 22, the University of Porto’s Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR-UP) welcomed another sea of 17k visitors, in an event held in conjunction with “Dia do Porto de Leixões”.
This Open Day was once again held in the Porto Cruise Terminal building, where CIIMAR’s headquarters are located, and received another flood of visitors who were able to enjoy a program full of free activities for the whole family coordinated by the University of Porto’s research center and the Port of Leixões Administration.
CIIMAR’s scientific exhibition, which took place next to the laboratories on level 2 of the Cruise Terminal, brought researchers from the marine and environmental research center to the social area to share some of the research they carry out every day. The experiences available ranged from scientific demonstrations to knowledge games and models of joint exploration of the aquatic and marine world.
The science exhibition was also accompanied by an impressive photography exhibition that revealed the best-hidden artistic talents of CIIMAR’s researchers and an “Ocean Trivia” competition that awarded prizes to the most knowledgeable about the most impressive facts about the sea, the environment and marine resources!
At the end of the event, the most famous table was the “Ocean Explorer” badge table, full of little explorers who eagerly collected the prizes in their Ocean Explorer passports.
